Modifiable risk factors for frontotemporal lobar degeneration Lead Investigator: Rahul Desikan Institution : UCSF E-Mail : rahuldesikan@gmail.com Proposal ID : 1011 Proposal Description: Recent studies suggest that modifiable risk factors are associated with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). However it is not known whether non-genetic risk factors predict FTD associated pathology. In this proposal our objective is to investigate the relationship between risk factors, frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) and clinical FTD subtypes. For these analyses, we will focus on cardiovascular, lifestyle and psychological risk factors, hereafter referred to as RFs. Our specific aims are: 1) Investigate the relationship between RFs, cognitive decline and tau pathology. 2) Investigate the relationship between RFs, cognitive decline and TDP-43 pathology. 3) Investigate the relationship between RFs, cognitive decline and behavioral variant FTD. 4) Investigate the relationship between RFs, cognitive decline and primary progressive aphasia.
